First Two Rides

At a library, and my time is limited. I will post some photos later, but some bullet points.

-Eating a lot and very well at churches
-Faced a lot of rain, wind, and cold today. Luckily, it was only 34 miles. Pretty suboptimal cycling conditions, though.
-Feels like its been longer than 4 days.
-You can read journal entries from EACH day of the trip here:

and click the pencil

-Time to eat...

  1. Next up: Greenville, NC

-tenth largest city in NC. Big step up from the last two days, eh
-named one of the nation’s “100 Best Communities for Young People” by the America’s Promise Alliance. Lucky you
-named Sportstown USA by Sports Illustrated. Totally biker friendly then!
-named "BMX ProTown". Maybe you'll shower at one of the many BMX riders who live there
-home to ECU. Didn't UVA crush them at something recently?
-used to be called Greenesville, in honor of General Nathanael Greene, the American Revolutionary War hero. Later shortened because the difference of two letters is oh-so much
-before that even, it was Martinsborough because some guy named Martin felt like naming it after himself. Common trend
-Hurricane Floyd in 1999 caused the nearby Tar River to reach a 500-year flood level. That's a lot of Tar in the homes!

Last but not least, NERD STUFF! woo
-one of the major transmitter sites for Voice of America shortwave broadcasts. Basically they transmit shortwave broadcasts of non-military, US-gov stuff, and backup to Washington as the uplink to the Satellite Interconnect System. Have no idea what that is...
-Serves as alternative major uplink to the Atlantic Region Satellite , and primary return link of that satellite. Let's us talk to Cuba, Africa, and LA, because we know that those places are full of antennas
-And, all of this means that somewhere right outside of Greenville there is a ridiculous amount of dishes/antenna lying around. Used to be the largest international communications site in fact. TAKE PICTURES if you pass by (and can)

    until tomorrow..
ps- chapel hill is not getting info done on it. call up the other dinosaur
