Ride to Ashville

The greatest day ever. A day up a mountain with a long climb.
Beautiful views. I am satisfied.

  1. Annndd I'm back.
    Asheville, NC!
    -largest city in western NC.
-before the Europeans, the land laid in Cherokee nation. Darn Brits.
-named after Gov Samuel Ashe. NC-ers really did not have any creativity, but instead, named all of their towns after people.
-the only Asheville bank to survive the Great Depression was Wachovia. Didn't survive the 2009 bank failures though
-has two nicknames: 1) The Land of the Sky, based on a book of the same name written by Frances Fisher Tiernan (nom de plume Christian Reid). 2) The Paris of the South (also used by New Orleans, Louisiana and Charleston, South Carolina)
-unofficial name of "Land of the Apples" has never stuck, even though it's one of the largest exporting area of apples. Pick a few and try em out if you can
-other "awards": "Happiest Place for Women" "The 50 Most Alive Places To Be" "America's Top 25 Arts Destinations" "New Freak Capital of the U.S." "Best Places to Reinvent Your Life" "most vegetarian-friendly". Exciting

That's about it! I'll be back to keeping up with my daily journey across America with you. Look for a postcard in TN. London was fabulous!!
